My comment on the "Ubuntu to go Multitouch" article

First of all (my subject title is not for you) The window controls switch on the right side with a 4 clicks away move. Google it. Second of all, to the Confused guy, Who have had multitouch for years? 4 fingers multitouch? Microsoft? Huh? And then again Why bother buying a laptop with Windows 7 already in it if you are going to wipe it? No you are just going to buy an expensive laptop as you said but with Ubuntu already on it! You are going to buy a Windows 7 Laptop only if you want to dual boot it with Ubuntu and Windows 7 together! Duh! And as a fellow commenter said earlier, if hardware companies bothered to supply the product with drivers for Linux and not ONLY for Windows then already there wouldn't be Mark saying that it will be difficult for the drivers to work. Microsoft provides drivers for hardware already packaged inside the OS only YEARS after the product has appeard and that is just to save you the time to install the drivers that the hardware company already provided AND to happily say after that it's OS is ready just out of the box plug and play support. As he said "The deliberate keep-away game is very effective in delaying customer support on nonMicrosoft OSs until volunteers can reverse engineer drivers. If these companies actually cared about real customer support they would standardize their APIs and device drivers and provide enough info so that if they didn't want to pay to create device drivers others could easily enough. And after all that would increase their sales, wouldn't it." And then again i have 2 PCs at home with 2 large widescreens on them, i would LOVE those 2 screens to be touchscreens and to have my Ubuntu with multitouch support! I would love to replace my mouse with that! I do imagine one day to use my desktop computer just like the "Minority Report" movie. And as it seems that is in the -so near- future that i am excited for! If you have seen the movie, Tom Cruise is performing 4 finger gestures on the widescreen of a huge desktop to move arround on a file system and scroll, enlarge, seek, zoom a recorded video. That is why Mark said that it will be as usefull on desktops as it will be on laptops as it is on smartphones or tablets. Tom Cruise's handling of that widescreen was awesome! And by the way, don't expect everything from Canonical, it was developers who don't belong to anybody that started modifying and importing Ubuntu on smartphones such as HTC and not the company itself! That is the factor of the Open Source software that makes it so great, anyone can develop! The news that the company it self is thinking and making it possible to use multitouch gestures and now as i read in another article, Thinking about tablets, it is amazing by it self! And by the way Canonical is developing it on Dell hardware because actually only Dell bothers to provide the choice for the customer about which OS to choose and actually introduces Ubuntu to clients as an OS choice just as Windows. Although Mark said that the choice for Dell was engineering driven, i don't buy that but it's ok because Dell is not following Microsoft's plan for monopoly. And as for Android about smartphones, the fact that it is based on linux does not make it usefull because it's interface limits linux's posibilities to the minimum if you consider it supports only Java apps! So Ubuntu is actually for me the first real Linux Smartphone and Tablet experience.
